The goal of every parent is to keep your child safe. The last thing we want is to have a product in our homes that creates a dangerous situation for our children. Unfortunately, it happens every day all over the country. How do we keep our babies and children safe?
What is a product recall for baby products? This is when a manufacturer finds something wrong with a product and is required by the FDA to remove it from stores and to request it back from people that purchased it because of safety or health concerns. This happens when a baby or other child has gotten hurt, or a potential danger is recognized. If you have already purchased a product, the company is required to correct the problem or buy it back.
With children’s toys, small parts can break off causing a safety issue; there may be parts of a toy that causes harm. If its baby food, it could be spoiled or contain spiked ingredients. Other issues include non-compliance on safety standards, lead poisoning, mislabeled items.
All child products are tested before they are sold, but not all problems are caught by the testers. Often times, things are discovered by consumers (or children) after they are purchased. Most products are recalled before anyone is hurt.
Be on the look out when shopping for toys. Avoid small parts or pieces that may break off as well as sharp edges. If there is a string attached, make sure it’s safely applied.
